- Why should I buy STUDI/O?
Eight great reasons to buy STUDI/O.
- Connect optically to your ADAT and/or DAT -- no signal degradation,
no ground loops or digital 'hash' in your audio.
- Record and play up to 16 channels in parallel -- save time and keep your audio in phase.
- Use the editing software of your choice -- Sonorus' standard Windows drivers mean compatibility with the widest variety of applications, current and future. With the growing recognition of STUDI/O Macintosh developers are supporting STUDI/O as well.
- Plug'n'Play, and off you go! No special programming required!
- Change sample rates on the fly -- send your 48KHz mixdown through our sample rate converter to your DAT machine at 44.1KHz, CD-ready! Or, record in that sound effect CD at 48KHz, ready to mix in with your ADAT recordings!
- STUDI/O is 24-bit now! Use 16-bit mode to save disk space, or 24 bits for the highest resolution recordings.
- Grow with STUDI/O -- use it with two DAT machines today, then get an ADAT and connect that, and then get a second ADAT and connect that! Get 2 more ADATs; pop in another STUDI/O card.
- Why pay for more A/D and D/A converters? Your ADAT machine has 8 of each, and your DAT has 2 more of each! Record live to disk thru your ADAT in record-pause!
- Can I record AUDIO CD's in through STUDI/O?
STUDI/O is a digital audio card, meant to interface your computer
with the outside world. There are several utilities around to pull
digital audio off of audio CD's in your CD-ROM player onto WAV files on
your hard disk, where you can edit them, insert them into songs, etc.
etc.

- Is the digital signal converted to analog when it is being transferred?
No, STUDI/O transfers the audio signal directly so it is maintained in digital format.
- I have a MAC. Can I still use STUDI/O?
STUDI/O ships with standard Macintosh ASIO drivers for Steinberg's Cubase VST 3.5 for Macintosh. Studio Vision and Vision from Opcode as well as Metro from Cakewalk will be added shortly. We are working to include other systems, like Logic Audio and Digital Performer. Check back here or Email us and we will keep you abreast of our progress.
- Does STUDI/O run on Windows NT?
NT drivers for STUDI/O are currently under development and will be released later this year.
- How do I know if STUDI/O will be compatible with my hardware?
Does your computer have a PCI slot? If you don't know, refer to your motherboard manual. If you answered, "Yes" and you are running
Windows 95 then STUDI/O is compatible with your system. For MAC/Steinberg users, you need a PCI compatible computer as well. Sonorus, Inc. recommends that users consult their software documentation for any additional system requirements.
- What program(s) do I need to use STUDI/O?
STUDI/O is designed to work with hard disk editors using Windows Wave Audio drivers. Among these are Cakewalk Pro Audio, CoolEdit, Cubase VST for Mac and PC, Goldwave, Logic Audio, Musicator, Samplitude, SAWPlus 32, and Sound Forge.Demo versions of most of these programs may be downloaded from the Compatible Software Page.
- If I get a dual processor board in readiness for NT5 drivers will Win95 work in such a board with just one processor ???
Yes it will work. Also we're planning WDM drivers, for NT5 and Win98.
Suppose I have a recording machine with digital in/out which is coaxial. Now, I want to connect it to a sound card which recording machine which got an optical in/output. Are there any transformers of some kind to do the trick?
Yes, there are digital format translators that will do the job. For example... Fostex's COP-1, Midiman's CO2 and Core Sound's DFT.I want to be able to fly between ADAT and Cakewalk ProAudio and back again and still maintain tight sync. Does Studi/o chase and lock to MTC or does it only freewheel?
You'll need to have the ADAT be the master MTC generator (via JL Cooper box, BRC, MOTU MTP-AV, Steinberg ACI, etc.), and feed MTC to the computer/cakewalk. STUDI/O will be set to lock to the optical output of the ADAT. This way, it's sample locked to the ADAT. It will not drift out of sync. With the ADAT also generating MTC, the two are totally locked together. Some mother boards will not let you disable
"PCI burst". Will I have to disable it to use STUDI/O?
No, that won't be a problem. In fact, it's the 'burst' or high speed block-move capability of the PCI bus that allows us to record/play 16 channels in real time.- Does STUDI/O support AES/EBU?
No. Currently AES is only standardized for XLR connectors and not optical. However, the board can send and receive AES/EBU data streams over the opticals. Using the Fostex COP-2 (which they just announced) you can translate the optical to standard XLR connectors.
